WHERE WE’VE COME FROM

Monument of Joy Breakthrough Outreach Ministries was birthed through Apostle Zoe El in Norfolk, Virginia at 3539 Ocean View Ave in October 1998. It was organized as a church in November 1998. A few of the ministries in operation were the Transitional Home, Evangelism and the Food Ministry, in which Apostle Zoe El reached out to the lost. At that time, Apostle Zoe El embraced the Ocean View area, with the help of God, oftentimes going door to door in the neighborhood alone

In 2000, God showed Apostle Zoe El the new home for the ministry, and Monument of Joy Breakthrough Outreach Ministries moved to 3032 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, Virginia, and became Monument of Joy Community Church. The ministry continued to grow and excel in the Kingdom and countless souls were saved, mentored, and filled with the Holy Ghost. The Balm in Gilead HIV/Aids/Substance Abuse Ministry was birthed in March 2004 to set the captives free and preach the gospel to hurting people.

In August 2000, the Lord gave favored the ministry in purchasing its own worship facility at 3032 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, VA and added to the church daily such as to be saved. A few of the ministries in operation were the Balm in Gilead Substance Abuse Ministry, the Water Brook Ministry (Prison Ministry), J.O.Y. Ministry (Youth Ministry), MOJC’s Food Pantry and more.

While fellowshipping on Tidewater Drive, God gave the ministry favor to secure the Hope House in December 2005. At Hope House, various ministries were operated, including the Balm in Gilead Substance Abuse Ministry, Battered Women's Shelter, God’s Soup Kitchen (Food Ministry), G.R.I.P. Youth Ministry, Moses Army (Young Men Mentoring), Water Brook Ministry, Summer Camp and more.

In October 2013, MOJC moved into 3110 Sewells Point Road in Norfolk. While at this location, several ministries continued including the Man in the Mirror Men’s Ministry, Women Excelling in Excellence, L.I.V.E. Youth Ministry, Food Bank, Evangelism, Empowerment Sessions, Discipleship Classes, and the Intercessory Prayer Line to the community.

In 2016, Apostle Zoe followed the direction of God to move the ministry back to 2546 Ballentine Blvd to prepare and train the remnant of committed souls to MOJC for the bigger, better and greater plan God had for the ministry. Still under the direction of God, Apostle Zoe sold the Ballentine property in May 2018 not knowing where the church would meet, but simply believing God. For 7 months, MOJC worshipped in a rented room at the Masonic Temple on Granby Street. In December 2018, God openedhe door for the ministry to close on a 16,424 sq. ft property 2 miles NE of the Masonic Temple at 8600 Granby Street.
